The Minneapolis City Council has been thinking of increasing the daily limits on how much garbage can be burned at the garbage burner next to the new Twins' Stadium. While this is billed as a "green" operation by the city and county, the fact is that there are many plastics mixed in with the garbage/fuel being burned; plastic that combines into dioxin when it is burned. So this "green" source of energy actually does keep garbage out of landfills, by pouring fine particulates (soot) and dioxin into our air on a daily basis. Those dioxins move into our bodies and live in the fat. So after you have lived in Minneapolis a while, don't even think about ever embarking on a weight-loss program. It is when you lose weight that the dioxins get you. |
Of course, this burner is beng run by Convanta, a very responsible firm that was just charged a 6-figure fine for routinely exceeding daily limits in another city on the East Coast. But we know that won't happen here. They said so.
